Quality Assurance Part 10: Tool Calibration: Supporting Accuracy, Compliance, and Reliable Service

Tool Calibration: Supporting Accuracy, Compliance, and Reliable Service

Accurate measurement is the foundation of reliable service. When tools are calibrated correctly, engineers can work with confidence, systems perform as expected, and facilities can trust the results.

At Numed, tool calibration is managed through a centralized process within our ISO 9001:2015 certified Quality Management System, ensuring every measurement is accurate, traceable, and audit-ready.

A Controlled Foundation

The process starts with how tools are tracked and managed across the organization.

Each calibrated tool is maintained within a structured equipment record that captures identification, ownership, and calibration history throughout its lifecycle. This centralized approach supports consistency across teams and eliminates gaps in tracking.

Establishing this level of control creates a reliable foundation for precise measurement in every service interaction.

Qualified Calibration Sources

To maintain consistency, calibrations are completed either by the original equipment manufacturer or by providers on Numed’s Approved Supplier List. These suppliers are ISO/IEC 17025:2017 certified, meaning they follow validated methods, use trained personnel, and maintain traceable measurement standards.

This approach ensures calibration results are consistent, dependable, and aligned with industry requirements.

Consistent Scheduling and Oversight

All tools are calibrated annually under the management of a dedicated Service Quality Engineer. Centralizing ownership of this process guarantees accountability and timely calibration across all equipment, supporting consistent service performance across every facility we partner with.

Complete Records and Audit Readiness

In addition to ensuring accurate calibration, Numed manages documentation for the calibration process.

Calibration certificates are stored directly within the system and include key details such as the calibration source, calibration date, and next calibration due date. Maintaining complete and accessible records ensures that documentation is always current and ready for both internal reviews and external audits.

Out-of-Tolerance Response

Even with strong controls in place, challenges can emerge that must be handled with precision.

If a tool is returned from calibration as out of tolerance, a formal nonconformance is opened and investigated in accordance with Numed procedures. This includes evaluating potential impact, determining corrective actions, and reviewing prior work when necessary.

Addressing these situations in a structured and timely manner helps prevent larger issues and protects the integrity of service outcomes.

Why It Matters

Standardizing tool calibration and response controls allows Numed to reduce risk, maintain compliance, and support consistent service performance.

For the facilities we serve, this translates to:

  • Greater confidence in equipment accuracy
  • Fewer unexpected service disruptions
  • A partner that is fully prepared for inspection and audit

At Numed, quality is embedded into every process. Tool calibration is one example of how attention to detail supports reliable imaging operations. By maintaining accuracy and compliance at every step, we help ensure that our partners can depend on consistent long-term performance.
