Expanding Our Mobile PET/CT Fleet to Support Oncology and Cardiac Care

BY Numed, Inc

Numed recently acquired three GE Discovery™ IQ PET/CT systems to expand and upgrade our fleet to support oncology and cardiac imaging and treatment follow-up. This investment strengthens our ability to provide consistent, high-quality PET/CT imaging when and where it’s needed most.

Preparing PET/CT Units for Reliable Performance

Numed operates under its own RAM license and employs an in-house physicist who supports each PET/CT installation. All three Discovery IQ systems will be installed in mobile medical trailers at Numed’s Service Center by our Engineering team, where radioactive materials handling, shielding verification, dose calibration, and regulatory documentation are coordinated directly through our organization. Managing these installations internally allows Numed to apply ISO-certified standards, conduct comprehensive testing, and ensure compliance, safety, and full system readiness prior to deployment.

Growing Our Mobile Imaging Footprint

With these additions, we continue to scale our fixed mobile imaging capabilities. Each Discovery IQ system is designed to improve operational efficiency, deliver dependable performance, and improve the clarity required for accurate diagnosis in mobile environments.

Mobile Trailer Revamp and System Replacement

Typical installation requires the removal of the existing system to accommodate the Discovery IQ platform. This process involved a cosmetic revamp, system integration updates, and final validation to support the new configuration. Numed engineers managed the process from beginning to end, ensuring proper fit, functionality, and long-term performance.

Behind the Discovery IQ Installation

Key stages of the installation process include:

  • Removal of the existing system
  • Equipment placement and integration
  • Shielding verification and radiation safety review under Numed’s RAM license
  • Dose calibration and physics support by our in-house physicist
  • Regulatory documentation and final preparation and testing for clinical readiness
